Ben can’t be with us today, so you get mostly my ramblings about SyFy shows. Also, this week is special because there are 2 weeks worth of TV here! That’s 2x your normal dose of “This Week in TV”!

Warehouse 13 (Tueday, 9:00 PM, SyFy, 7/21):

Justin: This week Pete and Myka are shipped off to my home state of Colorado looking for an artifact that is responsible for a nun thinking she can fly and a sweet old lady pushing faces through a glass countertop. The whole thing continues to feel like X-Files Lite which is A-OK with me. I still love the Steampunk vibe with the Farnsworth communicators and the Tesla pistol, but the chemistry between Pete and Myka just isn’t there. They need to tone down the arguing a bit and focus much more on the detective work seen in this week’s A-plot and playful banter seen in the opening. Artie continues to be a joy to watch even though he is usually alone on screen – it’s not every actor that can carry a joke solo, but he does it wonderfully.

Warehouse 13 (Tuesday, 9:00 PM, SyFy, 7/28):

Justin: I can’t decide if I am more upset that SyFy airs wrestling at all or that they timshifted Warehouse 13 by 3 minutes or so for it which caused me to miss the ending. Also, the hacker plot thread was wrapped up too quickly and was pretty unsatisfying for as worked up over the whole thing as Artie was. At the very least, Pete and Myka were better this episode in terms of bickering, but that may just be because they weren’t the main focus this time around.

Burn Notice (Thursday, 9:00 PM, USA, 7/23):

Justin: I genuinely enjoy the week-to-week adventures, but it is nice to see the plot moving forward again with both Diego and Strickler. Michael helping people is really nothing new, but it felt fresh this week because of the characters played by Michael and company.

Burn Notice (Thursday, 9:00 PM, USA, 7/30):
Mike: Another solid episode. While BN hasn’t broken away as anything outstanding this season, it has been consistently good. Here’s hoping for an outstanding finale to end its summer season on a high note.

Justin: We’re only one episode away from the summer finale, and things are really picking up. It was nice to focus on a minor character (Barry) as the client this week, and while the job was interesting it was great to see the weekly plot and the overall arc equally share screen time. I really hope that Fiona doesn’t end up leaving for good, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she leaves Michael next week only to come back an episode or two into the next season.

Eureka (Friday, 8:00 PM, SyFy, 7/24):

Justin: I am glad to see Section 5 make a return, and it seems like the story is taking a turn toward alien life existing and the scientists at Global Dynamics communicating with them via a mysterious signal. With concepts from earlier in the show’s run making a return I wonder if we will finally see Beverly again and figure out just who she is working for and what that party is truly interested in. Moving away from science and plot, Eureka has taken a page from Chuck’s book and found itself a new hottie. Tess, played by Jamie Ray Newman (who you should remember from Veronica mars), joins Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), Jo (Erica Cerra) and Zoe (Jordan Hinson – shut up she is 18 now) in the running for Miss Eureka 2009.

Eureka (Friday, 8:00 PM, SyFy, 7/31):

Justin: Tess and Carter have a great antagonistic relationship, but I really hope that they don’t end up together. Especially now that Stark is gone for good I would much rather see Carter and Allison end up together. It looks like we’re losing Lexi, which is okay with me. Eureka doesn’t need 3 babies – Allison’s 1 will be enough. And we continue to not really know what the signal is about. The only new development there is that the Army is afraid of it and orders Allison to erect a defense system. Oh, and there was a bowling tournament or something. If they were going to use that setup more pranks would have been nice. As it was, there were too many stories going on for any one to really stand out – the only real amusing takeaway is that Fargo’s rival at Area 51 is named Bismarck.

What did you watch this week? Tell us what you loved and what you hated in the comments!

Cue Narration- MICHAEL WESTEN: “When driving under the influence, the important thing to remember is not to almost crash into a parked police car. Doing this will get you arrested and ridiculed on an internet blog.”

Jeffery Donovan was arrested last week in Miami Beach for driving under the influence of what he said was “Benadryl and three glasses of wine”.

The arresting officer was stopped at a red light when he “heard a loud tire screech” and observed Donovan’s vehicle swerving to the left to avoid striking the rear of the police cruiser, the report said. When the officer approached Donovan, the actor said, “Sorry, I didn’t see the red light or your stopped car,” according to the report.

The Burn Notice star is out on $1000 bail and has declined to comment thus far. But really, it’s Michael Westen we’re talking about here. I’m sure this is part of some elaborate plan to clear the name of a poor innocent and take down some rich bully giving them shit. Watch out, Miami’s criminal elite!

Merlin (Sun. 8pm, NBC)

Ray: “This is pretty much Smallville set in Camelot. It’s amazing how strikingly similar the two shows are. Going by the first two episodes, I really hope the premise of this show is more than preventing Merlin or Arthur from getting killed every week. The acting was all over the place, and the CGI looks like something that even the SciFi channel would reject. However, I’m looking forward to seeing where they take this show.”

Ben: “Agreed. I’ll stick with it for now.”

True Blood (Sun. 9pm, HBO)

Mike: “Better and better. Good luck with Option C, Lafayette.”

Seth: “True Blood was amazing, I REALLY REALLY hope than Option C pans out! I’m also interested to see how Bill handles the situation…”

Weeds (Mon. 10pm, Showtime)

Ben: “For whatever reason, I was actually pretty entertained by this episode, more so than the previous two. Celia’s side plot needs to die in a fire, though.

Burn Notice (Thur. 9pm USA)

Ray: “Again we find out Michael wants back in whatever agency he worked for, yet he still doesn’t give a reason why. Michael temporarily gets Paxson off his back by helping her close the case she was working on, without her knowing of course. I can always count on Burn Notice to provide great entertainment, even when not much happens in the episode.”

Mike: “Actually pretty awesome this week, I didn’t mind the overall lack of continuity. I like Michael Weston: Good Guy, and I think Cop Chick could be a pretty nice asset to his little organization. Or maybe she’ll get shot like Victor.”

Ben: “Well what are they going to do now? We’re stuck with even less of a story arc than before”

Royal Pains (Thur. 10pm USA)

Ben: “Best episode yet. I give Hank’s brother and Divya one season before they ‘accidently’ end up in bed together”

Kings (Sat. 8pm NBC)

Ben: “Perfection. This show can speak volumes with just a simple look or symbolic act.”

Ray: “I need to force myself to stop watching the rest of the episodes. Every single one gets better than the last, and I’m really not looking forward to this show ending. The dialog is beautifully crafted, the directing is marvelous, and all of the acting is top notch. Silas bringing David to see his other family was nicely done, as was the ending when Silas finds out about him and Michelle. The entire plot involving who was going to get burned, Michelle or Jack, was superb. While I understand the reasoning behind it, I really hate NBC for canceling such a fantastic drama. At least we will be getting proper closure this time”

Harper’s Island (Sat. 9pm CBS)

Ben: “Dammit, show… why did you have to kill them?!?!? Also, I’m not buying the Jimmy red herring for a minute”

What did you watch this week? Tell us what you loved and what you hated in the comments!

Heroes is doomed again, Scrubs shakes things up, and USA is quite pleased with themselves.

Summer might be a slow season for TV news, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few bombshells every once in a while. So far this week, we’ve got some major stories, so let’s jump right in.

Bryan Fuller is leaving Heroes. Again. In an interview with EW’s Michael Ausiello, he said, “I’m crafting two pilots right now and it’s a lot of work,” admits Fuller, who has an overall deal with NBC. “It was just too hard to [juggle] Heroes and my development; something had to give.” This is great news for Bryan Fuller fans, as now he’ll have a chance to create a new show for NBC to butcher and eventually cancel (see: Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me). If you’re one of the few people still watching Heroes, however, I wouldn’t count on a terrific season 4. Without some solid creative direction, no amount of T-Bags and Cylons will save this sinking ship.

The other huge news of the weekend was Bill Lawrence, Scrubs showrunner, spilling the beans about the future of the show. Beginning next season, the show will focus on Dr. Cox and Dr. Turk as med-school professors. Sacred Heart will still make a few appearances for field work purposes, but the school will be the show’s new home. Most of the cast will be entirely brand new, with a few of the old regulars signed up to do guest spots and some of the old bit-players sticking around (minus the Janitor, Neil Flynn has a show on ABC next season). With most of the writing staff staying on, this show has the potential to continue its success but only if the casting is spot-on. Zach Braff is leaving some pretty big shoes to fill.

Finally, in ratings news (because y’all love numbers), USA’s Thursday night line-up is on fire. Burn Notice is pulling decent numbers (5.8 million total last week), but the real star is the newcomer Royal Pains, pulling 6.5 million viewers, up 17% from the previous week. These are great numbers for cable, and pretty damn good by broadcast standards as well. Perhaps this summer, more people are staying home and watching TV instead of going out dues to the economy. Or maybe they’re both just really good shows and you should feel bad for not watching them.

Our take on this week's offerings of our favorite shows. Let us know what you thought!

True Blood (Sun. 9pm, HBO)

Seth: “Wow, they are really deviating from the books this season. I guess they had to, in order to keep a popular character around. I like the vampire that Bill made last season, and I’m hoping good things come from her character. I also think it will be interesting to see how far they take the “Fellowship of the Sun is Scientology” angle they seem to be going for.”

Mike: “Season 2 kicked off to a great start, continuing the important True Blood traditions of murder and nudity. Bill and Sookie get broody while Jason gets saved. Not liking where his arc is going, but gotta have drama. The Maryann arc, however, is just getting interesting. What does she want with Sam? He’s easily my favorite character.”

Weeds (Mon. 10pm, Showtime)

Ben: “Who even knows what the hell is going on in this show. A marginal improvement in Nancy’s character this week, but that’s about it. They need to get their act together soon, and this is coming from someone sho didn’t mind Season 4’s big changes”

Nurse Jackie (Mon. 10:30pm Showtime)

Ben: “Oh neat, they aren’t just going to let that ear thing go. Interesting that they’re making it seem as though she’ll get caught at some point. And we got a litte more insight into some of the supporting cast, so props to them.”

Burn Notice (Thur. 9pm USA)

Ray: “This week’s episode proves once again that everyone should be watching Burn Notice. Brennen comes back to town for some payback while Paxson turns up the heat on Michael. Nate once again falls for another trap laid out for Michael. Very intense ending of the episode and I am actually looking forward to the development of Detective Paxson. Still no real central plot going on this season so far.”

Mike: “Monster-of-the-week continues in Burn Notice. I might be kidding myself, but I swear Burn Notice advanced the main story line more often in previous seasons. On the other hand, Michael made a cantenna which was great. I’m curious to see if Paxson turns out to be this season’s Big Bad or another unlikely ally. Next week should give us a clue.”

Ben: “Oh, she’ll totally be an ally, Mike. I give it 3 more episodes at most. Brennen is a fantastic character and I was really happy to see him return. Now they need to bring Agent Bly back for something.”

Seth: “Ah Brennen, you magnificent bastard. I was really excited to see him show up, and I absolutely loved how Micheal played him at the end. All around awesome episode. Jay Karnes plays an excellent bastard, and for more on him being a complete motherfucker check out his performance in Season 1 of Sons of Anarchy.”

Royal Pains (Thur. 10pm USA)

Ben: “A neurotoxin-emitting tick in his ear? Ewwwww. This really is House + Rich People”

Seth: “Man, Divya gets hotter every week. I really liked how Hanks brother got more development this week, and bringing in New Parts Newburgh as a recurring character could be hilarious!”

Kings (Sat. 8pm NBC)

Ben: “Wow. Just wow. I thought I was going to come here and write about what a dumb side plot the Sabbath Queen stuff was, but they turned that on its head about halfway through. It was nice to see that David the Boy Scout isn’t above a little sex-out-of-wedlock. The ‘photography’ scene was some some intensely sensual stuff. Here’s hoping for more of that.”

Ray: “By far my favorite episode of the series, everything was spectacular. The flashbacks of of Silas and Michelle when she was dying were brilliant, as was the scene between younger David and Silas meeting for the first time. I still think Macaulay Culkin was a horrible casting choice.”

Harper’s Island (Sat. 9pm CBS)

Ben: “OH SHIT IT’S LEOBEN!!! Awesome casting choice, by the way. This episode was stellar. Now we’re pretty much down to only people we care about, so each death resonates much deeper. I swear to God, if they kill Cal…”
