Our take on this week's offerings of our favorite shows. Let us know what you thought!

Merlin (Sun. 8pm, NBC)

Ray: “This is pretty much Smallville set in Camelot. It’s amazing how strikingly similar the two shows are. Going by the first two episodes, I really hope the premise of this show is more than preventing Merlin or Arthur from getting killed every week. The acting was all over the place, and the CGI looks like something that even the SciFi channel would reject. However, I’m looking forward to seeing where they take this show.”

Ben: “Agreed. I’ll stick with it for now.”

True Blood (Sun. 9pm, HBO)

Mike: “Better and better. Good luck with Option C, Lafayette.”

Seth: “True Blood was amazing, I REALLY REALLY hope than Option C pans out! I’m also interested to see how Bill handles the situation…”

Weeds (Mon. 10pm, Showtime)

Ben: “For whatever reason, I was actually pretty entertained by this episode, more so than the previous two. Celia’s side plot needs to die in a fire, though.

Burn Notice (Thur. 9pm USA)

Ray: “Again we find out Michael wants back in whatever agency he worked for, yet he still doesn’t give a reason why. Michael temporarily gets Paxson off his back by helping her close the case she was working on, without her knowing of course. I can always count on Burn Notice to provide great entertainment, even when not much happens in the episode.”

Mike: “Actually pretty awesome this week, I didn’t mind the overall lack of continuity. I like Michael Weston: Good Guy, and I think Cop Chick could be a pretty nice asset to his little organization. Or maybe she’ll get shot like Victor.”

Ben: “Well what are they going to do now? We’re stuck with even less of a story arc than before”

Royal Pains (Thur. 10pm USA)

Ben: “Best episode yet. I give Hank’s brother and Divya one season before they ‘accidently’ end up in bed together”

Kings (Sat. 8pm NBC)

Ben: “Perfection. This show can speak volumes with just a simple look or symbolic act.”

Ray: “I need to force myself to stop watching the rest of the episodes. Every single one gets better than the last, and I’m really not looking forward to this show ending. The dialog is beautifully crafted, the directing is marvelous, and all of the acting is top notch. Silas bringing David to see his other family was nicely done, as was the ending when Silas finds out about him and Michelle. The entire plot involving who was going to get burned, Michelle or Jack, was superb. While I understand the reasoning behind it, I really hate NBC for canceling such a fantastic drama. At least we will be getting proper closure this time”

Harper’s Island (Sat. 9pm CBS)

Ben: “Dammit, show… why did you have to kill them?!?!? Also, I’m not buying the Jimmy red herring for a minute”

What did you watch this week? Tell us what you loved and what you hated in the comments!

True Blood (Sun. 9pm, HBO)

Seth: “Wow, they are really deviating from the books this season. I guess they had to, in order to keep a popular character around. I like the vampire that Bill made last season, and I’m hoping good things come from her character. I also think it will be interesting to see how far they take the “Fellowship of the Sun is Scientology” angle they seem to be going for.”

Mike: “Season 2 kicked off to a great start, continuing the important True Blood traditions of murder and nudity. Bill and Sookie get broody while Jason gets saved. Not liking where his arc is going, but gotta have drama. The Maryann arc, however, is just getting interesting. What does she want with Sam? He’s easily my favorite character.”

Weeds (Mon. 10pm, Showtime)

Ben: “Who even knows what the hell is going on in this show. A marginal improvement in Nancy’s character this week, but that’s about it. They need to get their act together soon, and this is coming from someone sho didn’t mind Season 4’s big changes”

Nurse Jackie (Mon. 10:30pm Showtime)

Ben: “Oh neat, they aren’t just going to let that ear thing go. Interesting that they’re making it seem as though she’ll get caught at some point. And we got a litte more insight into some of the supporting cast, so props to them.”

Burn Notice (Thur. 9pm USA)

Ray: “This week’s episode proves once again that everyone should be watching Burn Notice. Brennen comes back to town for some payback while Paxson turns up the heat on Michael. Nate once again falls for another trap laid out for Michael. Very intense ending of the episode and I am actually looking forward to the development of Detective Paxson. Still no real central plot going on this season so far.”

Mike: “Monster-of-the-week continues in Burn Notice. I might be kidding myself, but I swear Burn Notice advanced the main story line more often in previous seasons. On the other hand, Michael made a cantenna which was great. I’m curious to see if Paxson turns out to be this season’s Big Bad or another unlikely ally. Next week should give us a clue.”

Ben: “Oh, she’ll totally be an ally, Mike. I give it 3 more episodes at most. Brennen is a fantastic character and I was really happy to see him return. Now they need to bring Agent Bly back for something.”

Seth: “Ah Brennen, you magnificent bastard. I was really excited to see him show up, and I absolutely loved how Micheal played him at the end. All around awesome episode. Jay Karnes plays an excellent bastard, and for more on him being a complete motherfucker check out his performance in Season 1 of Sons of Anarchy.”

Royal Pains (Thur. 10pm USA)

Ben: “A neurotoxin-emitting tick in his ear? Ewwwww. This really is House + Rich People”

Seth: “Man, Divya gets hotter every week. I really liked how Hanks brother got more development this week, and bringing in New Parts Newburgh as a recurring character could be hilarious!”

Kings (Sat. 8pm NBC)

Ben: “Wow. Just wow. I thought I was going to come here and write about what a dumb side plot the Sabbath Queen stuff was, but they turned that on its head about halfway through. It was nice to see that David the Boy Scout isn’t above a little sex-out-of-wedlock. The ‘photography’ scene was some some intensely sensual stuff. Here’s hoping for more of that.”

Ray: “By far my favorite episode of the series, everything was spectacular. The flashbacks of of Silas and Michelle when she was dying were brilliant, as was the scene between younger David and Silas meeting for the first time. I still think Macaulay Culkin was a horrible casting choice.”

Harper’s Island (Sat. 9pm CBS)

Ben: “OH SHIT IT’S LEOBEN!!! Awesome casting choice, by the way. This episode was stellar. Now we’re pretty much down to only people we care about, so each death resonates much deeper. I swear to God, if they kill Cal…”

Closure for Kings, Fox Premieres, Nothing happens with DTV, and Jon & Kate need to go away.

Do you love Kings? Because I do. And that’s why I’m sad that it’s never coming back after it burns through the last six episodes. But there could be some cause for fans to celebrate. The show’s creators sent a note to some sites, including Ain’t it Cool News, claiming the show will “continue to run weekly, through to the series’ finale on July 25, wrapping up all major storylines” So it sounds like even if there’s no more Kings after the initial 13 episodes, we’ll get enough closure that it’ll make a nice addition your DVD collection.

FOX has announced its fall premieres and timeslots. You can find the full list over at TVByTheNumbers.com, but here are some of the better ones:

Wednesday, Sept. 16

9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT: GLEE (LOVED the premiere back in May. It’s on after So You Think You can Dance, so here’s hoping for a bump)

Thursday, Sept. 17

9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT: FRINGE (This show really took off around midseason. And it’ll be returning with Leonard Nimoy, so that’s reason enough to be excited)

Friday, Sept. 18

9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT: DOLLHOUSE (FOX is pretty gung-ho about this death slot thing. Hopefully the show can at least keep its numbers steady from last season and sells a bunch of DVDs. Otherwise, don’t look for it to stick around.)

Monday, Sept. 21

8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT: HOUSE (I’ll put this here for Ryan, but I don’t care for the show. too formulaic)

Sunday, Sept. 27

8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT: THE SIMPSONS

8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT: THE CLEVELAND SHOW

9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT: FAMILY GUY (Family Guy and the Simpsons are decent most of the time, Cleveland Show is a Family Guy spinoff could go either way.)

It looks like the dreaded Digital Transition had virtually no effect on Nielsen Ratings this weekend. Not that the data means anything, since I’d imagine Nielsen families to be more conscious of their viewing habits then most people. But since Nielsens are pretty much the only numbers that networks look at, I guess this is a good thing?

And finally, you won’t hear very much about reality TV on this site, and you certainly won’t hear much about Jon & Kate Plus Eight Kids Who Have No Chance for a Normal Life, but I saw this and wanted to share. I guess the couple spent their 10th anniversary separate, which seems to point to their marriage being doomed. I think this is the part where you cut your losses and put a stop to the show and let these kids grow up with some sense of normalcy. Right now, we are on track for 8 Lindsay Lohan’s (or 4 sets of Olsen Twins) emerging in about 15 years, and I just don’t think there enough paparazzi to cover them all at once.

Our take on this week's offerings of our favorite shows

Weeds (Mon, 10pm Showtime)

Ben: “Honestly, I don’t like the way Nancy’s character is going. She’s too helpless, and I miss the clever, sarcastic MILF we’ve come to love. Maybe she still has something up her sleeve, but I’m sick of the damsel in distress routine.”

Nurse Jackie (Mon, 10:30pm Showtime)

Ben: “This show has some wonderful presentation. with the premise made lear in the pilot, let’s hope they turn their focus to fleshing out some of those forgettable characters.”
Burn Notice (Thurs, 9pm USA)

Seth: “I love any episode where Jack [Sam, the 'Jack of all trades'- Ed.] gets a big part. That cop is going to be a pain in the ass for Michael, or sex him silly. Or both!”

Ray: “Charles Finley returns! Seriously now, how many times has Sam used that cover? We get introduced to Detective Paxton played by Moon Bloodgood. I’m not really liking the character so far, hopefully that changes in time. She just seems like this season’s “Person to give Michael a hard time” now that Carla is gone. Standard help random person episode, nothing that really moved the central story along.”

Mike: “Still a great formula, but I miss the no-holds barred premise of the first two seasons. Cop lady isn’t doing it for me. Hopefully it’ll pick up.”

Royal Pains (Thurs, 10pm USA)

Seth: “Not as good as the pilot, but I think it’ll catch it’s stride soon. I really like Hank’s PA, she’s funny AND smokin’ hot!”

Ben: “I liked this week way more than the pilot. I like the House vibes they’re putting out as far as medical mysteries, and I love how the medicine is taking a backseat to plot”

Kings (Sat, 8pm NBC)

Ray: “Yet another solid episode, too bad it doesn’t matter at this point. Great scenes with Jack and David, though Silas stole the show once again. Wasn’t that impressed with the Michelle subplot.”

Ben: “Totally forgot how much I Love, love, LOVE this show. And word is, even if it only lasts 13 episodes (which is pretty certain) we’ll get a satisfying finale.”

Harper’s Island (Sat, 9pm CBS)

Ben: “A marked drop in quality from the previous few episodes, though overall the show is much better than its debut. Just goes to show, if you stretch a slasher flick over 13 hours, the expository beginning will be pretty boring.”

Pushing Daisies

Ben: “Decent episode, lame finale. Comic books ain’t gonna cut it, we’re gonna need a movie (at least) to finish this. Still, it was nice while it lasted.”
