Ben can’t be with us today, so you get mostly my ramblings about SyFy shows. Also, this week is special because there are 2 weeks worth of TV here! That’s 2x your normal dose of “This Week in TV”!

Warehouse 13 (Tueday, 9:00 PM, SyFy, 7/21):

Justin: This week Pete and Myka are shipped off to my home state of Colorado looking for an artifact that is responsible for a nun thinking she can fly and a sweet old lady pushing faces through a glass countertop. The whole thing continues to feel like X-Files Lite which is A-OK with me. I still love the Steampunk vibe with the Farnsworth communicators and the Tesla pistol, but the chemistry between Pete and Myka just isn’t there. They need to tone down the arguing a bit and focus much more on the detective work seen in this week’s A-plot and playful banter seen in the opening. Artie continues to be a joy to watch even though he is usually alone on screen – it’s not every actor that can carry a joke solo, but he does it wonderfully.

Warehouse 13 (Tuesday, 9:00 PM, SyFy, 7/28):

Justin: I can’t decide if I am more upset that SyFy airs wrestling at all or that they timshifted Warehouse 13 by 3 minutes or so for it which caused me to miss the ending. Also, the hacker plot thread was wrapped up too quickly and was pretty unsatisfying for as worked up over the whole thing as Artie was. At the very least, Pete and Myka were better this episode in terms of bickering, but that may just be because they weren’t the main focus this time around.

Burn Notice (Thursday, 9:00 PM, USA, 7/23):

Justin: I genuinely enjoy the week-to-week adventures, but it is nice to see the plot moving forward again with both Diego and Strickler. Michael helping people is really nothing new, but it felt fresh this week because of the characters played by Michael and company.

Burn Notice (Thursday, 9:00 PM, USA, 7/30):
Mike: Another solid episode. While BN hasn’t broken away as anything outstanding this season, it has been consistently good. Here’s hoping for an outstanding finale to end its summer season on a high note.

Justin: We’re only one episode away from the summer finale, and things are really picking up. It was nice to focus on a minor character (Barry) as the client this week, and while the job was interesting it was great to see the weekly plot and the overall arc equally share screen time. I really hope that Fiona doesn’t end up leaving for good, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she leaves Michael next week only to come back an episode or two into the next season.

Eureka (Friday, 8:00 PM, SyFy, 7/24):

Justin: I am glad to see Section 5 make a return, and it seems like the story is taking a turn toward alien life existing and the scientists at Global Dynamics communicating with them via a mysterious signal. With concepts from earlier in the show’s run making a return I wonder if we will finally see Beverly again and figure out just who she is working for and what that party is truly interested in. Moving away from science and plot, Eureka has taken a page from Chuck’s book and found itself a new hottie. Tess, played by Jamie Ray Newman (who you should remember from Veronica mars), joins Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), Jo (Erica Cerra) and Zoe (Jordan Hinson – shut up she is 18 now) in the running for Miss Eureka 2009.

Eureka (Friday, 8:00 PM, SyFy, 7/31):

Justin: Tess and Carter have a great antagonistic relationship, but I really hope that they don’t end up together. Especially now that Stark is gone for good I would much rather see Carter and Allison end up together. It looks like we’re losing Lexi, which is okay with me. Eureka doesn’t need 3 babies – Allison’s 1 will be enough. And we continue to not really know what the signal is about. The only new development there is that the Army is afraid of it and orders Allison to erect a defense system. Oh, and there was a bowling tournament or something. If they were going to use that setup more pranks would have been nice. As it was, there were too many stories going on for any one to really stand out – the only real amusing takeaway is that Fargo’s rival at Area 51 is named Bismarck.

What did you watch this week? Tell us what you loved and what you hated in the comments!

Check back here every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (we hope) for your dose of important TV news and snark. No bullshit and no filler here.

Let’s get to it.

TVByTheNumbers.com is reporting that True Blood’s season 1 is selling like hotcakes, according to The-Numbers.com’s weekly DVD sales chart. Earning $17 million its first week and $6.8 mill during its second, the show is easily conquering first-week sales of shows like Weeds and Dexter, and it’s coming awfully close to shows like Lost. The ratings for True Blood’s first season weren’t terrible, but they certainly don’t point to this many sales. This could mean any of the following: the show is benefiting from a great deal of word-of-mouth advertising, there are thousands of fans of the show who aren’t HBO subscribers but use *other* means to watch, or there are a large number of people who wil pay top dollar to see Anna Paquin’s tits plus that one chick from Cloverfield. Either way, I’d say a season 3 pickup is likely, regardless of how the second season does. Look for a season 1 recap on this site sometime before the June 14th premiere.

“Good News, Everyone” indeed. Collider.com has an “insider source” who has reveled that Comedy Central is preparing to pick up Futurama for a brand new 13-episode run. The source even goes so far as to claim that “offices have already opened and that casting is about to move forward.” If true, this certainly seems like a no-brainer for Comedy Central, but I’m not sure about the fan reaction. After some hits and misses with last year’s Straight-to-DVD-and-TV-Movies, the Planet Express gang ended things on what seemed like a great final note, and these episodes could prove to be too much of a good thing.

Also looking at a potential 13-episode salvation is My Name is Earl. According to The Hollywood reporter, TBS is in early talks to aquire the show at a lower, cable-friendly budget. The show has a devoted fanbase despite being past its prime, but I was still watching it out of habit and I’d love to see it recieve a proper send-off. As long as it doesn’t stick around too long.

And finally, even if 24’s new season continues the downward trend evident in about the final third of the previous one, I’m not sure we’ll notice with all of the familiar faces on the cast. Joining the ranks of “Bubba” from Forrest Gump and the jackass TV host from Slumdog Millionaire, and Freddie Prinze Jr. is Battlestar Galactica’s Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff). She’ll be playing a CTU agent and, I’m sure, a huge bad-ass. Definitely a step up from Bionic Woman.
